Prayagraj is about to become a major hub for solar energy production. The district administration has approved a massive solar power plant project in Devri village, located in the Yamuna region of the city. This project will generate 140 megawatts of electricity and costs ₹1100 crore to build.
The district administration has allocated 500 acres of land to the company for this project. The land registration process is complete, and work has already started on the site. This marks a significant step forward for clean energy in Uttar Pradesh.
How the Power Will Be Distributed
The plant will supply 10 percent of its generated electricity directly to Prayagraj district. The remaining 90 percent will go to the northern power grid, which serves multiple states. This arrangement ensures that both local needs and broader regional requirements are met.
The company building this plant is based in Gorakhpur. Officials expect the plant to start producing electricity within three to four months. Construction work is moving forward at a fast pace.

Prayagraj district already has four other solar plants, each with a capacity of 80 megawatts. These plants have been operational for the past three years. They are located in the Yamuna region, specifically in Bara, Koraon, and Meja tehsil areas.
With the addition of this new 140 megawatt plant, Prayagraj will generate approximately 600 megawatts of solar energy. This makes it one of the leading districts in Uttar Pradesh for renewable energy production.
Smaller Solar Installations Across the District
Apart from these large plants, Prayagraj has many smaller solar installations. Allahabad University, the North Central Railway headquarters, and various other institutions have solar plants ranging from one to five megawatts in capacity.
About 20 such smaller plants have been operational for the past five to seven years. These installations show how solar energy has steadily gained ground in the region.

District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma confirmed that this is the largest solar power plant project in the Yamuna region so far. He stated that the administration facilitated the land allocation in Devri village and that construction work has commenced.
AIG Stamp Rakesh Chandra mentioned that the land registration process is almost complete. Other required procedures are also being carried out to ensure smooth project execution.
