According to solar companies and energy experts, the cost of most domestic rooftop solar systems gets recovered in about 4 to 6 years. This is called the payback period. The time it takes for the initial investment to return through savings in electricity bills is the payback period. After this, solar panels continue to provide electricity at low cost for the next 20 to 25 years.
Most good quality solar panels last about 25 years or more, although their electricity production capacity decreases slightly over time.
